A CITIZENS’ GUIDE TO THE IMPEACHMENT…

AND REMOVAL FROM OFFICE

OF

PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH
AND
VICE PRESIDENT DICK CHENEY

FOR THE GOOD OF THE
REPUBLIC, THE PRESERVATION
OF OUR CONSTITUTION,
AND THE RESTORATION OF
OUR DEMOCRACY

If not us, who?
If not now, when?

“President Bush has taken the extraordinary position that he is not obliged to enforce laws that he doesn’t feel like enforcing. Under the Constitution, the president must execute all the laws, not just the ones he likes or approves. And he must obey all the laws, not just the ones that suit him.”

–Elizabeth Holtzman, member of the panel that impeached President Richard Nixon.

SOME OF THE MANY REASONS WHY BUSH AND CHENEY MUST BE IMPEACHED!

George W. Bush (and probably Dick Cheney) have committed serious offences falling under the Constitutional description of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” including:

1. Lying to Congress and the American people in order to launch an unprovoked war of aggression against Iraq—thus violating international law.

2. Directing an illegal domestic wiretapping program and other surveillance of Americans without court authorization, and in violation of the FISA Act.

3. Permitting and condoning the use of torture and the abuse of detainees, and denying them rights in direct violation of the Geneva Conventions on prisoners.

4. Showing reckless indifference to human life in targeting Iraqi civilians, failing to provide our soldiers with body armor, and in the inadequate federal response to Hurricane Katrina in the South.

5. Building an imperial presidency and abrogating excessive power by attaching signing statements to bills passed by Congress, negating congressional intent thereby; and otherwise undermining our Constitutional system of checks and balances.

If you go to Amazon.com you will find that several books have been written on Impeachment, including one coauthored by Elizabeth Holtzman and Cynthia L. Cooper: The Impeachment of George W. Bush: A Practical Guide for Concerned Citizens. Also, The Center for Constitutional Rights has published a book containing “Draft Articles of Impeachment Against George W. Bush.” The work contains extensive evidence, or “Specifications” supporting each of their four “Articles.”

Various sets of draft Articles have been written which vary in the number of charges and allegations made against the Bush Administration, from 3 or 4 to as many as 12 (Loo and Phillips, Impeach the President: The Case Against Bush and Cheney. Some Articles charge the Administration with actual crimes, others not—but offenses do not have to be criminal in nature to be impeachable.
