Raise the Wage
American workers are long overdue for a raise. The Raise the Wage Act, recently introduced by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA), is a strong and responsible plan to raise the minimum wage to $12, increase economic security for working families, and make sure workers across the country can count on wages that lift them and their families out of poverty….

Release the Complete Text of the TPP
President Obama has been aggressively promoting the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as a “trade” deal that would be very much in America’s interest. Yet the negotiations between 12 Pacific Rim nations and more than 600 multinational corporations are being held in strict secrecy, with neither the general public nor Congress permitted to review any of its draft contents. Moreover, the President will soon pressure Congress for so-called “Fast Track” approval, which requires a straight up or down ratification vote, with little opportunity for debate, and none for amendments.
If the TPP is really as beneficial for America as President Obama claims, then he must allow us to see for ourselves. President Obama must release the complete draft text of the TPP to the general public.
We’ve known from the start that Act 192 was a bullying tactic from the greedy gun lobby focused on suing our towns and cities. The threatening letters and lawsuits have begun, as the gun lobby takes aim at our cities.
But now they’re taking it to a new level.
Some of the cities that are being sued have set up legal defense funds to ask for help from citizens to fight back–pretty standard stuff. But now the gun lobby wants local district attorneys to prosecute PA citizens who contribute to legal defense funds. That’s right — those gun bullies are claiming that contributing to a city’s legal defense fund is somehow criminal activity!
It’s plain to see what’s happening. When you empower bullies, they turn into monsters — and become enraged when anyone challenges them. They are so afraid that Act 192 is going to be struck down that they are rushing to bully, threaten and sue anyone who tries to stand up for PA cities. Well, we won’t back down and we won’t be bullied.
But our legislators in Harrisburg need to know the impact of their last minute, late night gift to the gun lobby. Will you take a minute and make sure your legislator knows what that vote set in motion and the monster it unleashed?

No more West Virginia disasters. Ban all oil trains today.
West Virginia is reeling from yesterday’s oil train catastrophe. Flames are shooting 300 feet in the air, oil is leaking into the Kanawha River, which supplies drinking water for downstream communities.
Incredibly, over 700,000 Philadelphians live in the evacuation zone of an oil train crash. 400,000 Pittsburghers are at risk including 91,000 kids.
Tell the U.S. Department of Transportation it’s time to ban these oil trains before another disaster happens.
The unfolding oil train disaster in West Virginia is the latest story of one of these exploding oil bombs derailing in our community. These trains travel through residential areas, major cities, and near millions of people. It’s time to ban oil trains before another disaster happens and even more damage is done.
