After eleven years of U.S. warfare in Afghanistan, the twisted ethos of perpetual war goes virtually unchallenged among the 100 members of the U.S. Senate.

With undue presidential power for making war, the deference is deafening — and deadly. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

No one in today’s Senate comes close to the record of Senator Wayne Morse, who was willing to directly challenge the president of his own party as the war in Vietnam gathered momentum.
