Sometimes even conservatives like columnist Cal Thomas can amuse, despite their determined destruction of my country.. I doubt that Thomas planned that his March 9 column praising Newt Gingrich’s “plan to clean up dirty politics” would appear on the very same day the news broke that Gingrich was having an illicit extramarital affair while he was brutally leading the charge in President Bill Clinton’s impeachment for the very same sin.
“Clinton’s impeachment had nothing to do with sex – it was lying,” some Republican readers will proclaim, with such horrified, histrionic indignation! Au contraire: Lying is George Bush’s and Dick Cheney’s unmatched and, only true, expertise; and the only way ever to prosecute them for it is to catch them under oath – which they studiously avoid.
Clinton’s impeachment was all about sex, the salacious details of which smut-loving, snickering Republicans shoved down our (and our children’s) throats, making sure every detail made newspaper front-page and nightly broadcast news headlines.
I had to chuckle. Republican hypocrisy knows no bounds.
